See how a biomass waste to energy system works:
The gasification chamber is technology that converts discarded waste streams into clean energy. It reduces the volume of waste going to landfills, thus saving on tipping fees. This entire process is environmentally friendly and carbon neutral. The technology was developed with backing from the EPA and the DOE.
The waste product, ash, is estimated to be only 6 to 15% of the incoming feedstock. There is a market for selling the ash to differnt industries, including: water filtration, potting soil mixture, building material aggregate, etc. Alternately, it can be land-filled reducing the waste volume to the landfill by up to 85%.
The system requires approximately 1 ton of feedstock per hour per MW of capacity. For example, a 10 MW system requires approximately 240 tons of feedstock per day. This may vary based on the heating value of the specific fuel source chosen.
The Biomass Gasification system is designed to operate with a 90% up-time availability. It will operate maintenance free for 2000 hours between scheduled shutdowns. Major shutdowns are scheduled for every 5 years. A minimum of 2 operators are required on site at all times. Overall maintenance costs are estimated at $0.01/kWhr.
The modular design allows for easy scaling of the Biomass Gasification system. For Example, a 1 MW biomass unit will supply approximately 730 MWHrs per month while working working up to 24 hours per day. That´s enough to power almost 1,500 homes! Additionally, a 20 MW power plant operating at 90% availability will produce approximately 160 million kWhrs per year.
