Smart Umbilical Mating System for NASA's space launch initiative:
Developed umbilical technology in support of NASA's Space Launch Initiative (SLI), a technology development effort to establish reliable, and affordable space access.
Quick Disconnect fittings to detect leaks:
The quick-disconnect fittings on hoses and bellows can be equipped with sensors to detect leaks and misalignments that cause leaks. This sophisticated fitting uses force sensors, strain gauges, pressure transducers, and microphones.
Obstacle Detection System:
The obstacle detection system directs a robot arm away from an obstacle. The obstacle detection system is used to insure that robots avoid collisions in their workplace. Robots incorporating the technology are now being used in Space Shuttle processing.
Commercial Project Technological Innovations
The R2 Energy team has been in the forefront of technological advances for over 30 years in developing systems such as:
BP Solar
We built the prototype/production machine for Solar electric (photovoltaic) panels.
First Solar
This system manufactures solar modules with an advanced thin film semiconductor process.
Current Project (confidentiality disclosure restriction)
This system manufactures solar panels utilizing CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, & selenide) material.
Motorola
The initial design and fabrication of the first prototype flat panel display.
Diamond Black Technologies
Designed the first system to produce Boron Carbide (chemical formula B 4 C) which is an extremely hard ceramic material used in tank armor, bulletproof vests and numerous industrial applications. With a hardness of 9.3 on the mohs scale, it is the fourth hardest material known behind boron, nitride, & diamond.
Pratt & Whitney
The prototype/production machine for Thermal Barrier Coating, applied to turbine blades to prevent accelerated oxidation due to hot corrosion. The blades are used in commercial and military jet engines extending their useful lives by decades.
Osmic, Inc. (A division of x-ray instrument maker Rigaku)
We built a thin-film prototype/production machine to produce precision x-ray optics and related instruments for life sciences, semiconductor, & materials analysis markets. The system uses multilayered diffractive optics to bend, shape, & filter x-ray light which can be mass-produced and done economically.
Vistakon (Division of Johnson & Johnson)
We built the prototype/production machine for disposable contact lenses.
The Timken Company
We built their prototype/production machine for a Boron Carbide electric arc furnace to manufacture diamond-hard material.
